Charlie Gillett uses the start of the World Cup as a perfect excuse for the first of three prorammes exploring the music of the nations taking part. As ever with Charlie, the music is surprising and wide-ranging. There's a calypso by a German/Dutch duo, a couple of veteran singers - Bonga with an Angolan rebel song, and fast-paced folk from Serbian Saban Bajramovic, Dona Rosa represents Portugal, Chavela Vargas is the voice of Mexico, and finally from Sicily, Italian group Banda Ionica combine traditional instruments with new sounds. All this, and it's only round one. Stand by for two more stunning world cup specials.
