America's tropical island state of Hawaii is known around the world for its golden beaches.
Pristine and pure you might think. But the reality is different: there is so much debris in the sea now much of it ends up ashore.
The government recently set up a programme to help co-ordinate the fight against sea-bourne trash, and Newshour's reporter Matthew Wells went down to the beach on the island of Oahu, to find out more:
