Jessica Jordan Burton describes her journey from Miss Bolivia to special envoy to the President Eva Morales

Twenty-six year old Jessica Jordan Burton has had rather an unusual career path.

A former Miss Universe contestant, she is now a powerful political figure in Bolivia. The former model has been appointed by Bolivian President Evo Morales as his special envoy in the border province of Beni.

The area is notorious as a base for money launderers and cocaine dealers.

So what made a former Miss Bolivia decide to trade beauty pageants for politics? The BBC's Jo Fidgen put that question to her.

First broadcast on 6 September, 2010
