Pekka Aikio comes from the far north of Europe - he's a member of the Sami community - a group of people that have traditionally lived by herding reindeer in the Arctic. For twenty years he has worked in the parliament set up in Finland to represent his community.
   
Cecil Dickson Loss of a Childhood

When Cecil Dickson was taken away from his parents he was just four years old. The policeman that came to collect him and his older brothers was carrying out the policy of the Australian government of the time to bring up Aboriginal and half-caste children in European families or in children's homes that encouraged them to adopt 'white' culture. As a result many children, like Cecil, were forcibly removed from their homes.

The Hadza people of Tanzania still live by hunting and gathering - a way of life that has changed little over thousands of years. But now the land and the wild animals they depend on to provide their food are under threat. Simon Charles is one Hadza who is doing what he can to help his community - but at the moment it feels like a losing battle.

Hilda Samson lives in Venezuela. She worries that since moving from their home in the jungle her community of Carib, or Karina, Indians have forgotten their culture, language and traditions. She also finds herself in constant conflict with the miners who are extracting gold from her land - without her permission.
