Salam Pax - The Baghdad Blogger

During and after the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a young architect using the pseudonym Salam Pax became known around the world for his blog, or web diary. He charted the everyday reality of life in a city under fire, and then under occupation, and became known as the Baghdad Blogger. However, two years ago he was forced to leave because of the dreadful violence consuming his country. Recently he returned home, and as Iraq geared up for their first provincial elections in years, he reflected for Outlook on what life is like in Baghdad now.

He sent us these five ‘postcards' from Baghdad:

Listen Part 1 (04:06) thoughts on returning from exile

Listen Part 2 (03:36) the continuing difficulties just getting by in Baghdad

Listen Part 3 (04:09) revisiting a favourite haunt - Al Mutanebi Street, the street of the booksellers.

Listen Part 4 (04:02) the voting process in what used to be a totalitarian society, as Iraq head for the polls

Listen Part 5 (05:01) thoughts on how the security situation has changed
