Outlook runs people stories - not, for example, science, history or politics.
We look for stories about how individuals are trying to change the world or how individuals are being affected by world events. In all cases the emphasis is on the individual. We also run opinion pieces.
If you think you might have a story, there are three good questions to ask:
- Are people on the other side of the world going to be interested in this story?
- Is it a 'people story'?
- Is there a good reason to run this story now?

Style
Outlook runs many different types of recording. Take a listen to these examples - all recorded by Outlook listeners - and see which one would suit your material best:
A listener column about bringing up children
A listener feature about coal mining in Ukraine
A listener feature about the Bamenda Riots in Cameroon
If you want to experiment with sending us material, we've also got space on our website for 1 minute soundbites recorded by listeners:
Doing the recording
It's obviously best if you can use high quality audio recording equipment, but there are many different ways to carry out recordings these days - using computer or mobile phone for example.
In every case, it's worth listening back to the material and asking yourself "Is this clear enough to be easily intelligible on the radio?"
If you don't have recording equipment, it would be worth contacting the Outlook team anyway - because we might be able to arrange for a reporter to visit you, to help you carry out the recording.
If you think you have a story
If you haven't recorded any material before, it's probably worth contacting the Outlook team by email.
