Libya conflict: Nato agrees to take control of enforcing no-fly zone

Nato Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen

Mr Rasmussen says Nato's mandate does not extend beyond enforcing the no-fly zone

Fierce battles continue in Libya despite the no-fly zone.

The United Nations says further measures to halt the conflict may be agreed if required.

There has been some argument over who is in control of the military operation and what its aims are.

Following discussions in Brussels, the 28 members of Nato have now agreed to take control of enforcing the no-fly zone over Libya.

A separate operation, led by the US, the UK and France, will be responsible for protecting civilians.

The BBC's Pascale Harter spoke to the Nato Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
