A scheme to help hairdressers identify customers who may be suicidal has been launched in the northern Japanese city of Toyama.

More than 650 hairdressers are involved in the scheme.

As well as attending lectures by clinical psychologists, they are also being given guidebooks to hand out to customers.

Danielle Demetriou is the Japan correspondent for the Daily Telegraph.
