Afghan capital Kabul under fire

Afghan security forces at the scene of an attack in central Kabul

There is concern that some of the attackers may still be at large

The Taliban have attacked the heart of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

In an assault lasting several hours they detonated bombs, set a shopping centre ablaze and fought gun battles with security forces.

The fighting broke out as the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, was swearing in new government ministers.

It is thought the dead include seven of the attackers, three Afghan security officers and two civilians. More than 70 people were wounded.

Newshour speaks to Shoaib Sharifi, the former editor of the Kabul Times newspaper.
