Faith-healing parents sent to jail

Dale Neumann

Dale Neumann says he and his wife continue to trust in God

When an 11-year-old girl from Wisconsin in the United States fell seriously ill, her parents prayed to God to make her well, rather than seeking medical treatment.

The youngster suffered from an undiagnosed but treatable form of diabetes.

Her parents' prayers were not answered and she died in March 2008.

The couple have just been sentenced to serve one month in jail, each year for six years, plus a period of ten years on probation.

The case is believed to be the first of its kind in the state involving faith healing.

Jay Kronenwetter is the lawyer for the girl's father, Dale Neumann.
