Fast internet service is something most people in the developed world take for granted, but in Africa internet service is slow and inconsistent.
That is all set to change as a high speed fibre-optic cable is laid under the sea from India to countries stretching from South Africa to Kenya.
BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan- Jones reports that the arrival of a proper internet link has been greeted with great excitement and a small dose of scepticism.
