Afghan elections: the view from Kabul University

Seven people were killed and over 50 wounded after a suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of foreign troops in Kabul on 18 August 2009

With an increase in violence in Afghanistan in the build-up to the presidential election, the issue of security is uppermost in many people's minds.

The World Today gave some students from Kabul university the chance to interview people in authority about the issues that concerned them most.

One student Aref, for example, chose to put questions to one President Karzai's National Security Adviser, Zalmai Rassoul.

Many students are disappointed by the performance of the politicians they held out such high hopes for during the last election.

Some feel that Hamid Karzai has let down women in particular.

Nasrin Setayesh is studying Veterinary medicine at Kabul University, but she is originally from Bamiyan province.

Habiba Surabi is the governor of Bamiyan and the only female governor in the country.
