A British government minister walked out of a Muslim wedding a few days ago and has now condemned the segregation of male and female guests.

He describes it as "strange" he was not allowed to sit with his wife.

Jim Fitzpatrick left the London Muslim Centre after being told that strict Islamic rules meant his wife Sheila would have to move into another room.

He accused the centre in Whitechapel, east London, of imposing segregation rules which were not part of tradition and which Muslims in the community did not want.

The BBC's Dan Damon discussed the issue with Jim Fitzpatrick and Murad Qureshi, a Labour member of the Greater London Authority.
