Microsoft's vision for the future

For the first time in its 23-year history as a public company, Microsoft's quarterly revenue has fallen from the previous year: profits have dived 32%.

Microsoft faces challenges from competitors such as Apple and Google

In January, Microsoft said it needed to resort to its first mass lay-offs, cutting 5,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, the long-running row with the European Union over alleged anti-competitive practices rumbles on.

A new version of Windows, called Windows 7, is on its way to replace Vista.

World Update's Dan Damon asked Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer if the economic downturn was making life difficult.
