The Maersk Alabama was the sixth ship seized off Somalia in the past week

The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has called for international action against piracy following the latest hijacking off the coast of Somalia.

An American navy destroyer has been deployed to help the American crew of the Maersk Alabama, which has been attacked by pirates.

There have been more that 130 attacks on ships off the coast of Somalia in the past year and more than 40 ships have been seized.

The hijackings are threatening to destabilise one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
