The three attempted to travel without passports or money
Listen Listen to German journalist Sascha Sommer (2 mins 29 secs)
Two love-struck German sweethearts have had their plan to elope and marry in Africa thwarted by police.
The children, aged five and six, slipped away from their home in Hanover as their parents slept.
With bags, sunglasses and big sister in tow, they got as far as the railway station where they were waiting for the airport train when police intercepted them.
Europe Today's Audrey Carville spoke to Sascha Sommer, a reporter with North German Radio (NDR) who met the children.
