Putin mulls Intervision Song Contest

The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin wants to resurrect a communist-era song contest called Intervision.

He says it would strengthen cultural ties between Russia and the countries of Central Asia and China.

Since 1996, Russia has been able to enter the better-known Eurovision Song Contest. Moscow even hosted it this year.

The BBC's Berlin Correspondent and former Moscow correspondent, Steve Rosenberg, was one of the comperes of the Russian Eurovision heats in 1996.
