Well I like to learn the foreign language. I am learning from websites, magazines, newspapers, tv and radio. It's bit hard to remember all the things. So I try to pick any word and try to make sentences myself to know how to use and to remember the word. I was looking for a website where I can learn the language more and understand it. I am happy to found BBC learning website which has everything what I wanted. Not only grammar, it has so many exercises to do like listening, story, pronounciation everything and all in simple way to learn & understand. Thanks to the team for arranging this website for us.

i memorise new words by associating them with different things, or simply writing the word on a piece of paper and sticking it somwhere where i can see it frequently eg. fridge

I believe that using words in practical manners is more effective way to memorize them. By reading, we have words in our short term memory but with utilizing them, we set them up in long term memory. I have experienced above in my career in less than two years instead of learning English at academy in 10 years.

I write new words and stuctures on memo, then I stick it on wall in my room or on computer monitor. When I take a rest or wait on turning on the computer, I see it and memorise it again. I think the most useful method for memorising is to see as often as possible.

For learning new vocabulary, I suggest having your own mini glossary. Everytime you come across a new word, write it down and write the meaning 'in English' or synonyms, also provide one example so you don't just know the word, but you know how to use it in the right context and the right structure.

I do believe that any foriegn language can learn in proper way. although it is very difficult to reach a high level in short time. there is no doubt in my mind that learning language which is not your mother tongue takes a lot of energies and efforts to achieve your ultimate goal. acually , i'm still struggling how my English improves, despite the bbc learn english is very useful and i have learned a lot of phrases from the teachers of this wibeside.but in my view concerning this topic of how one can improve his or her English ,and remember the new wors, i would suggest that pest way is to read a lot and to listen as much as you can .particularly the news and other mojer conversation with respect to English langauge, that is what i usually do in most of my time. in addition to that , i would say those who live in native countries can be considered to be very luck with regard to learning English language, this is beacuse, they learn the language faster than those who live outside the countries which is mentioned above.

I remember English new words and expressions by old business cards of my mother. One side I write new word and the other side I write the definition. I keep these cards in a box and review them in my free time. I think this method is efficient. I memorise about 10 new words per day. And I review memorised words after learning new words. The more words I learn, the better my English is.

The best way to learn and memorise new words and estructures is to teach somebody what you know.

I try to think the word in some context, after that I try to remember this word without dictionary day by day, and the must of time I've memorised many new words and idioms.

I think it is a general problem how to memorise things e. g. new words that we learn in a foreign language. I reckon motivation plays an important role. If I love the subject that is the language I learn and people whose language I study it motivates me to be more diligent. In this case I study and memorise new topics much faster and easier. It makes me happy to learn -- and doesn't means troubles for me.

you can read them loudly many times( stand in front of a mirror and look at your mouth when reading). Then apply them to your own sentences and situations

For a new vocabulary word, i find it more difficult to memorize it than to learn. Whenever I came across a new word, I studied it's spelling, it's meaning, it's relating words and the usage of it in example sentences. Make it more understandable when it was used in a paragraph reading. Then to make my own sentence using it. Then try to use it in my paragraph writing. Without doing so, I just kept on using my old vocabulary words and seemed like never can improve my language. My problem with learning foreign language is whenever I want to use my new vocabulary words, they just like hiding behind the curtains. If it is multiple choice questions.....then I am good at it. My teachers encouraged me to learn and use them repeatedly.

To answer to your question about memorising new words, I would like to say that reading and listening is the best way to memorise new words and practice and repeat them in different situation.
Gajraaj Singh Purawat , India
i always repeat the new words again and again for the day and this way i used to learn new words.

I know that I am a visual type so I need to READ new words or expressions. Then – as a second step – I need an example of use to set the new words in context. The next step is to use the new words in own sentences. Unfortunately this method does not improve my listening comprehension which is my main problem. In every day life I have to catch words and expressions by ear which is a real problem for me. I think I can only solve this problem by listening to English speaking people as often as possible. Great gratitude to BBC I can listen every day to different articles without reading the text (I close my eyes while I am listening). After the listening exercise I can control myself by reading and listening to the article at the same time to get to know if I got the message properly. I hope this method will improve my understanding abilities. But there is still another problem: How can I improve my speaking when there is no person I can talk to? :-)

well, it is really a complicated process how we learn a foreign language but one of the most important thing in that is repetition and learning regularly. I personally use a learning-Box to memorise the new vocabularies but it isn’t everything, you learn a word and memorise it but you need time to get hang of using this word, you have to hear this word again and again and in several different situations until that gets a constant place in your mind. Another substantial thing is, you should always learn new things and never be satisfied with your current knowledge otherwise your brain would get rusty!! of course it isn’t so easy to learn new words every day and it periodically makes you feel that your Speaking-Ability is getting worse! but don’t worry there is a lot of up and down in this learning process but suddenly you will reach your constant procedure.Learning a new language is also a question of motivation, start loving the new language and never complain that it is too late or too difficult for you.another example: the teacher EMPHASIZEd my ACCENT need being perfect TOnight at 8 (to accentuate) is the synonym for to emphasize. later when you get hang of these words you will use them automatically but when you hear a word at the first time this method can be really conducive.another issue is when someone start extending their vocabulary he confront with so many synonyms, what to do?!! we tend to speak what we learn in conversation, but it is false! why? ok start thinking which words you use when you are speaking in your native language, just some special words certainly. You need, therefore, only some words to understand what the people say that’s why listening skill is a very important part of learning a new language, try to understand what the people say and start replying with certain words you always use. Later when you have some more experience in the new language you can use more other words without being confused!

first of all , thank you for your impeccable programme . to answer to your question I would say there is not a royal way to learn new words or structures. As far as I know, to learn how to make a sentence correctly we need to improve our grammar skills .to memorise new words can be very difficult and hard to keep them in our long term memory but , if we make our own sentences it would much easer to become natural and we will be able to use them immediately

To memorise new words and structures, I try always to find an analogy between the new term and others, especially from other languages. French language has for example helped me a lot for memorising new English words (but it harms to my English accent). In my case, I rely a lot on my visual memory. Unfortunetaly, watching films or listening to the radio didn't help me enough to memorise. I memorise better thanks to reading, subtitling and breaking news.

I always memorise new words by using them many times and have more practice,so in my opinions, the best method is to practise as many times as you can

One of my methods for learning vocabulary is to look at all of new words without concentrating so much. i just wanna have feeling that i've saw them. And then i studied by brain, try to visualize how to write that word, images refer to it, and make a sentence. where is its position in sentence ? i try to figure out as much as i can.

The best way to memorise new words, expressions is just practising. Try to use new structures as often as it is possible and soon you will be excited with feeling of fluent speaking etc

It's always nice when you learn a foreign language, it envolves lerning about a new culture and diferent people, I had this experience in England where I lived for almost three years. I'm glad to be able to go back in the past and recall all the work I had to memorize and learn new words and structures. I would associate the words to the objects, if it was about something abstract I would feel it and not to translate into my language (portuguese).
Manu, Spain
The most important thing of all when you try to master a second language is to listen to it as much as possible. I download the mp3 files from the bbc website and then later on I listen to them as often as I can, when I´m at the gym and wherever I go. When I get used to the new vocabulary and structures I write them down and try to learn them.

Hello! I'd like to share my first experience of learning. At the begining of learning English I couldn't realize which technics of memorising are better for me but I was persuaded by one clever book for beginer learners that process of learning mustn't be tired and boring also this book explained me that it would be better to make a chort breaks between exercices. Because of this important cause I did my choice for a special computer multimedia program which I selected by occasion in a book shop. It had a lot of exciting features like learning new words in playing way. I was using it for a long time page by page. As a result I learnt a basic range of English words which are often used in a real conversations. It didn't take a lot of my time and it was a pleasure for me to spend time when you can check and feel your own progress constantly in a real time.Since time I can already judge and criticize myself definitely. Unfortunately my method had one an important lack: each english word in the program had only one explanation without details. I impoved this lack using paper notebooks with words and their comprehensive explanations. Sometimes I refresh my knowledges using this issue with computer dictionary. Maybe my experience would be useful example for everyone beginer.
