The photo

The photo was taken by me during my visit to Sikkim in December 2009.
It's called Lake Gurudongmar, which is one of the highest lakes in the world situated in India (Sikkim State) at an elevation of 17,100 feet; it's one of the sources of River Teesta and remains frozen during winters with an exception of one small portion which has been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava. This is a sacred lake for Sikhs, Buddhists and local people.
The Lake is quite close to China border, so the area is patrolled by Indian army.
Its quite difficult to visit the place during winter as the roads are mostly blocked by snow, I'm one of those lucky ones to visit the place in winter and relish the spectacular view of the lake.

Hello Abhilash,
Your photo on this page is very good, and I could know that this scene of the winter was very rare. Thank you for sharing it with me.
But, I had a question while reading your explanation:
How did you reach the lake with snow having covered roads to it, which you write as having it difficult for anyone to arrive at it?

It's very beautiful. I've never known there's such a wonderful site in India and just remembered the Lake Louise in Canada where I visited on my honeymoon.
Thank you.

Hi Tropical Fruit,
I mean to say the roads were mostly clear when I traveled, we had minor hiccups with Jeep drivers and minor ice patches on the roads, apart from the journey was quite smooth.

Thank you Abhilash for showing us this wonderful lake in a great place. You're a very lucky person for have seen it.
I live on the Lake Maggiore in Italy. It isn't really big but in the middle there are three wonderful little islands.
Unfortunately I don't have pictures on my laptop but if you want you can find a lot of pictures on the internet.
Bye for now
Vito
by the way, please excuse me for my poor English, I'd like to improve it and as you can see I need a lot of practise....
