The photo

The ruins are city walls of Greek colony Hersones (Chersonesus Taurica), located on the shore of the Black Sea. Founded about 2,500 years ago, the ancient city is really amazing because walking along remains of its walls and streets with a little help of imagination, you can almost see what it was like to live there centuries ago.
Now the ruins are part of the National Historical-Archeological Museum "Khersones Tavriysky".
Modern city (Sevastopol) is not so old, but has its own story - it has been the home for Russian Black Sea Fleet since early 1780s and was involved in nearly all conflicts in the region.
It's a popular seaside resort and tourist site, and an important centre of marine biology research - local dolphinarium is awesome :)

Hi Alexia
I know this remarkable place. I was deeply impressed when I strolled about ancient streets trying to fancy what kind of people were those who lived there long ago.
By the way in three week I'm going to Sevastopol and of course I'll go to Hersones once again to feel it's misteriuos atmosphere.
Best wishes,
Tatiana from Russia
