This recipe was sent in by Nevena from Bulgaria

This is a recipe which I know from my friend's grandmother. It's my husband's favourite dessert.

The finished dish

For the cake

  • 500g plain yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teacup of sugar
  • ½ teacup of oil or olive oil
  • 2 ½ teacups of flour
  • 2 soup spoons of cocoa

For the cream

  • 125 gm butter or margarine
  • 1 egg (you can take the egg white only)
  • 1 tea cup of caster sugar
  • Some grated chocolate

For the cake

  1. Put the yoghurt in a bowl. Add the bicarbonate of soda and stir with a fork.
  2. Add the sugar and stir.
  3. Add the oil or the olive oil and stir.
  4. Finally, add the flour and the cocoa and stir with a fork.
  5. Now mix with an electrical mixer in order to remove the lumps in the dough.
  6. Spread some oil on the bottom and sides of a baking tin, then pour in the mixture.
  7. Put it in a preheated oven and bake at 180-200 degrees. Use a toothpick to check when it is ready. Wait until the cake cools down and put the cream on top.

For the cream

  1. Stir the egg and the caster sugar.
  2. Then add the butter or the margarine.
  3. Stir until the mixture turns into a cream.
  4. Put the cream on top of the cake.
  5. Sprinkle some grated chocolate on top.
