Costumes and celebrations: September

The photo

I am a dancer from Gönyeli Municipality of North Cyprus. We dance in traditional costume, to traditional music.

Best Regards
Arzu Ersoy

The Gönyeli Municipalty Folk Dance Group was started in 1983. The group wants to show the traditions and culture of North Cyprus. Gönyeli is a town not far from the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. Every July, the Gönyeli International Folk Dance Festival takes place in the town. The event lasts one week, with groups of dancers from around the world performing traditional folk dances.

Great photos!!! It's fantastic when we can pass the old and good traditions to the next generations. Here in Brazil we have a lot of folk dances all over the country. Of course many of them were brought by foreing people that came to Brazil to help the colonization. But some others appeared during the history of our continental country. In the Northeast, which is one of the five regions of Brazil, there is a tradition to dance "QUADRILHA" when is June. It's so popular that people participate of contests to choose the best one. It's fun, colorful and lively. It's a pity that I don't have any photo to show you all.
