Gene Wilder

Gene Wilder has worked with Mel Brooks on lots of successful comedies, including The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Although the two are good friends, they almost fell out last year over Mel Brooks's plan to make Young Frankenstein into a stage musical. We hear part of an interview with Gene Wilder, in which he explains what happened between the pair. Plus, we find out what 'The Borscht Belt' is..!


The Turner Prize

The Turner Prize is awarded every year to a British-based artist under the age of fifty. Even though the prize is named after a famous painter, there are no painters on this year's shortlist! We hear parts of an interview with Rachel Campbell-Johnston, the Chief Arts Critic at The Times. She discusses the work of two of the short-listed artists: Zarina Bhimji and Nathan Coley.


A Passion For Cricket

In this edition, we listen to extracts from an interview with John Major, the British Prime Minister before Tony Blair. He's written a book about the history of cricket from the 18th century to the First World War. It's called More Than a Game - The Story of Cricket's Early Years, and, as we hear, he has plenty to say about the ways politics and cricket meet.


My Best Friend

In this edition, we hear two very different views of a new French film called My Best Friend. It's a chance to learn several ways of expressing like or dislike when talking about films. My Best Friend is directed by Patrice Laconte, and it's a comedy about an antiques dealer who sets out to win a bet he's made with his business partner - that he can't make a real friend by the end of the month!
