When I visited the churchyard I was shaking like a leaf, then I thought I saw something that sent shivers up and down my spine. I was scared stiff when I realized it was a ghost, a deadly creature.

When in Abkhazia was war we all were very scared. The shoot and noise of tanks moving sent shivers up and down our spine. Then I was child and sometimes I was shaking like a leaf and sometimes I was scared stiff .

Two years ago, my partner and I nearly got eaten up by some agressive and angry dog : as we we were desperately shouting for help, we we were literally shaking like a leaf !

In climbing a mountain, while I was getting over a difficult passage on a wall I suddenly realized that a knot of my safety rope was loosing. A fall of about one hundred meters on the rocks was a matter of seconds. I started shaking like a leaf but this was even whorse: by shaking I was also loosing the only available grip for my fingers. Instead to shake I decided to shiver up and down the spine but the situation didn't improve at all. I stopped panicking, I concentrated all my body and mind and thus I found a last second solution, with an hazardous action I could stop the knot loosing...and now I can be here to enjoy the lessons of the clever BBC Learning English teachers.

I have always been saying that BBC cannot get any better as it has already reached the maximum of potential quality, but you still keep impressing me. The last episode of The Teacher is a masterpiece! So, let me teach you a Greek idiom used to declare our devotion to something:

Hello Teacher. It's been a long time, hasn't it? I am happy to hear from you again. For me, fear is a very strong motivation to keep on banging the head against a brick wall when learning English. The thoughts of possible having butterflies in the stomach or needing to give the right arm to achieve some goals or far worse thing as a make a dog's dinner from that comment. These send shivers up and down my spine.

Last Saturday I tried my IELTS exam and I was shaking like a leaf.When I read instructions for my writing tasks those sent shivers up and down my spine.
Now I'm waiting for my band score (probably 1 or 1.5) and I'm really scared stiff.

When a plane flies over my mother's house she's always shaking like a leaf. What's the reason for that behaviour? She's experienced world war II. Several times my mother's village was bombarded. All the people were scare stiff, then. Every time during narrating her story, it sends shivers up and down my spine.

On my way home, I saw a huge dog walking toward me. There was nobody in the alley at the time.
I got scared stiff, but soon I decided to walk as naturally as possible and tried hard not to give myself away. However, as the dog came near, I was shaking like a leaf. And then it was starting to march with me! The unexpected walking sent shivers up and down my spine. Suddenly, there was a calling for the dog and it quickly went back.
Looking back to it, the dog was gentle but I just got scared because of the size of it.

I know I am very foolish but I am frightened of my grandparents' cat. When I am alone with it I can't help shaking like a leaf ! Once upon a time their cat focused on me with eyes so glaring that it sent shivers up and down my spine. Unless I am scared stiff about it I try to go at my grandparents' as often as I can.

When I was studying at a music school, I participated in various concerts and contests. At first, when I was unexperienced, I used to shake like a leaf. The idea of playing the piano in a big concert hall scared me stiff. One day I even forgot all the music. It was the most embarrasing experience in my life! The memory itself sends shivers up and down my spine. However, years passed, and now I understand that a slight emotion really helps to express what I feel in the music I play. I get a great delight in sharing a particle of myself with people surrounding me.

I was in Turkey in hollydays 5 years ego. My hotel wasent a good hotel not bad but ..a hotel in Aksaray..what do you expect? and I was coming to my room about 11:00 or something like this and..in the stairs ..I saw a man ..normal he said :" hello" I answered the same and he added" I 'd like to invite you in my room ..." me:"No thanks" and he insisted" why not come on" and he tried to approach me. That sent shivers up and dawn my spine, I was shaking like leaf.:)

Hello. I'm a brave woman but unexpected things do happen once in a blue moon. It was a very dark night and I was just painting a little at home. I was alone and very concentrated when I started to feel something sending shivers up and down my spine. I could swear that someone was there looking at me, surrounding me...
First I was scared stiff but I really wanted to know what was happening... At this moment a horrible face appeared outside the window, screaming an laughing very loudly. I shook like a leaf and runned away as fast as I could. So... I'm not that brave anyway.

I do not remember a fear moment, but I have scenic panic, look at: when I have any public presentation, I shaking like a leaf, it is dificult for me control it . And so I have take a medicine for control this symptoms.

Jump out 10 meters platform in a swimming pool was an experience which scared me very much. When I was climbing the stairs, I sent a shiver up and down my spine and I began shaking like a leaf. On the top of the platform, I was scared stiff for a few minutes. However, I asked courage to Good and jump.

Hi. This is first time I join and comment on BBC. So happy when I can say something about "Fear".
When we were young, I and my friends, we had a crazy idea "Walk in cemetery at midnight". And I were in.
In cemetery, sometime I heard "bla bla" sound, it's not any meaning, but it made us so scared, we were shaking like a leaf. And more interesting that's Luciola, like that fire-fly.Like ghost. I saw them,it sends shivers up and down my spine and sometime I scared stiff...
Now, when I remember that, I think that's a crazy and "happy" idea with my friends.

Last September, I visited the Czech Republic. One day, when I was walking with my husband, a bear came running to us!
No. Actually, it was a big dog. I had never seen such a big dog, so I mistook the dog for a bear. The dog was friendly, but it was so big that I couldn't touch it. I was scared stiff, and my husband was shaking like a leaf.
This episode is a good memory now.

I remember when I was 6 years old, than I first saw Russian soldiers in our village, we lived in the small village, next to head road, when was a revolution in our country, so when everybody is shaking like a leaf, other feeling , when sent shives up and down spine, not known, we can say in Hungary "the cold is running around our on back.. when is happening something , what is not normal

I swaer I would never see the movie channel in the midnight!!
That day was Halloween, TV company promoted a series of old movies about ghost, and I just saw one of it.Oh my god~it really sends shivers up and down my spin!!!Everytime the ghost in the Movie appear, I screamed out loudly!!
After creaming during the past two hours,I felt so thirsty.Then I decided to have cup of hot tea in the kichen to relax myself.

One day in evening when I was going home after work some man was coming after me. When we had stayed along He grabbed me and shut my mouth. He told me if I call for help that would kill me. Some days ago I and my boyfriend were watching a scary movie. All the time I was shaking like a leaf. The film was about darkness killing people. As the film was over I wend to the bathroom and suddenly the light went out. At first I was scared stiff but after some seconds I decided it was just a joke. I remember one terrible situation. I was about 10 years old and exceptionally I was sleeping in the hall on the ground floor, because my aunt and uncle were spleeping in my room. Suddenly some sound woke me up, I raised my head and saw something in the window, that sent shivers up and down my spine. It was a very hairy man's face. Yesterday evening j've seen my cousin for All Saint's Day with my family. Every year, after celebration at family cemetery, we met us and go together to our childhood village to see each other again and take a lunch. I realy fall in love with horror novels. Yesterday I spent the whole night devouring an extremely compelling ghost story. Although there was noone in my room except me and my imaginative characters which began dancing quitely behind my back. I was definitely scared still whenever I heard any noise coming any corner of my room. "Oh Lord!" I whispered, "My imagination really sends shivers up and down my spine." Finally, I decided to stop reading and closed the book as quickly as possible. However, from an unknown place (or a unknown power) came a cold wind which turned my book open again. I was shaking like a leaf for one minute, and I then fainted on bed.

my grandpa's house used to be a remote area, which took an hour to meet our neighbor. I was scared stiff whenever I visit him and stayed overnight. I couldn't go anywhere and it sent shivers up and down my spine when the wind shrieked through the window. Once I thought I saw someone at the window and that really makes me shake like a leaf.

Lets see.... Last time when I was in the exact situation was when I was 9. I was doing my home task in the evening, when, suddenly the lights have been turned off. By the way nobody from my family was at home that period of time. I thought that it was a common precautions which is a common thing in our Ukrainian electricity branch. Unluckily I haven't got any light at all, so I've got to sit and wait till the lights were on. I couldn't move in a dark properly. It past nearly three hours until they have finally turned the lights on. Even insects moving had been heard! Definitely I was shaking like a leaf these three hours.
That one? Well it was at one night on the March 2004, when I was going to the Prosecutor and Judicial Faculty of ONUA's party. Three militants with a scary big German shepherd dog stopped me while I was turning to the left side of the corner of my yard on foot. They tried to arrest me because of not having any of the identities documents. Luckily I had returned back some minutes before and took my student card with me. After hearing this explanation and watching my student card they decided to arrest me illegally. Firstly they started to suspect me because of the alcohol. But I have had none of it at all that day. Then they started to have some suspicions about my eyes. They told me that my eyes were too big from range of normal conditions. Of course they were while someone was shining a light right on your eyes!!!! But it's not a reason so as to be arrested for drug dealing!! This situation sent shivers up and down mine spine. They started to search me and my clothes. After not finding anything illegal they have finally left me go. Gosh!!!! Never have I been in such an extremely danger! Still I haven't gone to any of discos since that night.

In the days when I was in high school, I had to pass through a graveyard to get home.The first time I crossed the graveyard I was shaking like a leaf. When I got used to it, It didn't send shivers up and down my spine any more. I lost my father in march and I don't believe gost or something like that.
