Christmas is for Children
by Taru from Rovaniemi, Finland
On Thursday the mother of my daughter’s friend called and invited us to join to “a little Christmas” celebration to their home. It is some kind of pre-celebration of Christmas. The adults have own and the children have their own. I was very delighted about the invite. She gave the introductions that it should have a hat of elf on head. During the little Christmas it is made cakes called “Pipari”. The paste of Pipari is made of wheat flour, liquid brown sugar, fat, and spices like ginger, carnation, cinnamon and cardamom. The real taste and smell of the Christmas began when the house is full of those aromas.
Our mistress has made repairing forehand and when all of the children have come they began to bake cakes.
I have added here some photos of the little Christmas.
Is there someone coming to celebration ..
Two elves coming by an old traditional Finnish sledge.
Here we are.
The children draw at the first.
Making the cakes was exiting.
The Pipari can have several shapes like pig, star, flower, horse, elf, heart, bell etc . every kind of things which remind from Christmas. The shape is made by iron model.
It was full of activity and hassle with children.
Baked Pipari taken off oven.
Time to enjoy friendship and taste Pipari and juice.
It was really nice moment with children before christmast. Thank you all óf your interest.
