Sir CCTV is watching on us, have a nice smile please!
Yesterday, I went to Taipei city to attend a workshop of the theme of CCTV which is an abbreviation for ‘closed-circuit television’.
Before I talk about CCTV, I would like to talk firstly about the word ‘weblog’ which was used by the comment of Juan from Argentina on May 22nd of teacher’s blog. The blog is a short form for weblog, in other words, the term “blog” is a portmanteau of the words web and log. ‘Blog’ can also be used as a verb which means to maintain or add content to a blog.
I am more interesting in the word ‘log’ than the word ‘web’. As you know, whatsoever you have done to the computer, it will record your every single actions to a log file. For example: I blogged on the student blog of BBC learning English, my PC and BBC’s server will record all the details of edition, correction, modification, save, publishing, and etc. I am curious about why the computer was originally designed in this way which logs every thing automatically without the permission of user?
The log files of computer let me think of the film ‘Enemy of State’ which was an American movie. The film told the audience that the populace could be surveyed by a unit of the government with using high-tech satellite technology, CCTV, and etc..
CCTV is popular among the police all over the world, they (CCTV) have been set at the street, ATM machine, and other public place (like: station, convenient shop, public transportation).
We are developing CCTV to prevent from and investigate into crime in Taiwan. I want to tell you about ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) and AFR (3D automatic face recognition). The ANPR was invented in 1976 at the Police Scientific Development Branch in the UK. And, once CCTV linked up with ANPR and AFR, and people who are locked that their every single move will be monitored and recorded by the police or other units, including the rout of your driving and walking and how many times you are going to rest room. As you know, CCTV works seven twenty-four, never rest. Is it amazing? Or, is it crazy?
Incidentally, the country that has the most advanced tech of CCTV and ANPR of the world is UK. Britain becomes the first country in which every journey of every vehicle is monitored and recorded in 2006. And London is the number one of the amount of CCTV in the world.
Teacher Alex who lives in London is safer than James Wu who lives in Taiwan, Many security guards (CCTV) are watching on and protect teacher Alex in London. Would you please have a sweet smile when you meet CCTV in London!
All above are true, realistic and understated.
Got one, lose the others.
James Zhih-Cheng Wu
PS: I thought my blog might be used as English teaching material, that why I gave up my copyright. That is that.
