Target: To deliver a high-quality multimedia news service in Persian for Iran and Afghanistan, including an eight-hour television service.
• BBC World Service television in Persian to reach at least three million weekly viewers, as part of an overall BBC multimedia reach in Persian of over 10 million weekly users.
Data from national surveys will not be available until after the elections in Iran in June. Results from a limited survey carried out in Tehran shortly after launch indicated that BBC Persian TV had a weekly audience of 4.5% of adults and there was a higher level of awareness for BBC Persian television than for Voice of America (VOA) television.
• BBC World Service television in Persian to have the highest reputational indicators of any international TV channel in the region; measured in Iran (and Afghanistan when possible).
In the Tehran study reputation questions were asked but the bases (BBC, VOA viewers) were too small for reliable analysis.
