Studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University.

Spent 19 years at the Times as an assistant editor and political columnist.

Presented The Brains Trust on BBC Two and The World This Week on Channel 4.

Joined the Financial Times as a business journalist and was business editor for Today newspaper before moving to the Economist.

Enjoys singing, rollerblading and is a member of the Council of Tate Modern.
