From his school in London he headed off to study in Paris and got a taste for the media game

Spent eight years with BBC World Service's French unit before moving to Europe Today

Also a keen poet

I was working on a special programme The World Today did a few years ago in Kenya. We spent a week in a secondary school, talking to the pupils about how they saw the future. They set the agenda, decided on the stories and did the interviews! Kids of all ages from humble backgrounds were simply inspirational.
