Anacostia is an area on the other side of Washington DC from the White House. It is a deprived part of the city which tourists rarely see.

She works for the the Bread for the City organisation which provides food, legal and medical help for vulnerable people.

Jack and Jill

JackandJill politics.com is a blog which in the words of its writers, has a black bourgeoisie perspective on US politics.

Jill aka Cheryl Contee covered the election of Barack Obama closely and describes every day of her coverage during that time, as a "monumental moment" where she thought that getting close to winning was enough.

For Obama to actually win, she says was "overwhelming".

Cheryl hosted the World Have Your Say debate, the day before the inauguration.

Cheryl and her colleague Baratunde also filmed some flipcam footage of their day on vimeo.
