Video gamers of the 1970's are now teaching and learning from their kids about gaming. How is the next video game generation shaping up? Two gamer families recorded their thoughts for the Your Story citizen journalist project.

Andrew Bub runs a website called Gamerdad and has two children himself. Sisters Ismini and Phaedra run a web site called Womengamers, they have a son and daughter respectively.

They are all expert gamers themselves and want to give their children the best gaming experiences. They all believe that gaming is an essential aspect to their lives.

Ismini believes that learning about technology through play will equip her child with the essential skills necessary for the future.

She says many jobs, including surgeons need to be able to use the latest technology and to have the best reflexes to operate this kind of technology. Watch

Ismini says that she and her husband like to play Warhammer online, which is a game where you have to try and destroy your enemies. This is an adult game which her children are interested in, but they are not allowed to play this game.

Andrew Bub thinks that game violence is not harmful to children. He says it's like television violence. He thinks that even the most realistic of video games are still fake and that the problem is with people who cannot distinguish between what is fake and what is real.

Both gaming families use games to bond with their kids. They believe in the value of teaching skills like interfacing and navigating on-screen menus and console controls. Ismini is surprised at how fast kids can learn and how quickly her son is advancing in his game play.
