Next week, the BBC will be running a major documentary series called The Crescent and the Cross, where Owen Bennett Jones journeys round the flashpoints of the struggle for religious supremacy between Christians and Muslims. Can both faiths live side by side?

Islam definitely believes in co-existence with people of other faiths. Even a verse in the Holy Koran says that if a non-believer asks for refuge, a Muslim cannot kill him and has to keep him safe.
