I come from Benue State in North Central Nigeria. I started my broadcasting career in 1990 with Radio Benue as a DJ/presenter.

I was spurred on early in my career when I received the Best Presenter Award for the station.

My broadcasting heroes are Maria Odeh and Femi Showoolu (both well known Nigerian Broadcasters).

I have also been the features editor of Nigeria's highest selling romance magazine, Hints Magazine.

I'm married and have a son and a daughter. My best friend is my twin brother Paul.

I joined the BBC in September 2004.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by music. I love the four 'Rs': R'n'B, Rock, Reggae and Rap. I used to play guitar in a band at university.

Your choice of tune for a Saturday night?

Saturday Night Fever by The Bee Gees.

Your choice of tune for a Sunday morning?

Definitely some old school gospel music.

Your favourite African novel?

Waiting For An Angel by Helon Habila

Your favourite African movie?

Xala directed by Ousmane Sambene

Your favourite food?

Pounded yam and edikainkong. My wife makes the best edikainkong in the world! I'd wash it down with a cold bottle of Fanta.

What's your idea of a perfect night out?

Hanging out somewhere listening to oldies.

What makes you angry?

Bullies and people who take me for granted.

Why do you love Africa?

It's just such a beautiful continent despite all its problems.

What depresses you about Africa?

Sit-tight rulers who don't even know what they're doing.

What do you always bring back from a trip home?

Music

Finally… your proverb or Last Word?

"A little love always goes a long way".
