Peter Okwoche

I was spurred on early in my career when I received the Best Presenter Award for the station.

My broadcasting heroes are Maria Odeh and Femi Showoolu (both well known Nigerian Broadcasters).

I have also been the features editor of Nigeria's highest selling romance magazine, Hints Magazine.

I'm married and have a son and a daughter. My best friend is my twin brother Paul.

I joined the BBC in September 2004.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by music. I love the four 'Rs': R'n'B, Rock, Reggae and Rap. I used to play guitar in a band at university.

Your choice of tune for a Saturday night?

Saturday Night Fever by The Bee Gees.

Your choice of tune for a Sunday morning?

Definitely some old school gospel music.

Your favourite food?

Pounded yam and edikainkong. My wife makes the best edikainkong in the world! I'd wash it down with a cold bottle of Fanta.

What's your idea of a perfect night out?

Hanging out somewhere listening to oldies.

What makes you angry?

Bullies and people who take me for granted.

Why do you love Africa?

It's just such a beautiful continent despite all its problems.

What depresses you about Africa?

Sit-tight rulers who don't even know what they're doing.
