FM in Singapore

Listeners in Singapore can keep up-to-date with the latest cricket news
The BBC 88.9 FM frequency in Singapore is now 30 years old and has been given an audio birthday treat.

Specially crafted promotional trails, reflecting the feel and style of Singapore, have been created to help audiences navigate the schedule.

Voiced by a Singaporean, the trails pick up on the local nuances of the country while informing listeners of local times for their favourite programmes.

Ruxandra Obreja, Acting Head of Business Development, BBC World Service, said: "The BBC has been broadcasting to Singapore since January 1976 and we felt it was the right time to revamp our output to help bring our 300,000 weekly audiences closer to our programming.

"We are proud of our long association with Singapore and hope it continues long into the future.

"Audiences will also be pleased to know that our broadcasts to south east Asia will be clearer and sharper than ever thanks to our new agreement with the Singaporean broadcasting authorities, who allowed us to increase the strength of our transmitters."

The specially crafted promotional trails will introduce a broad mix of BBC programming ranging from news and current affairs to science and technology.

Highlights

Programmes include Newshour, which is an hour of news and analysis of the day's top stories, and the interactive global news programme World Have Your Say, giving listeners an opportunity to share their views and questions on topical issues.

Cricket enthusiasts can stay across the latest in World Cricket while football supporters tune into World Football.

Audiences can also tap into the world's cultural scene: The Beat is an essential guide to popular global music, while On Screen brings the latest stories from the world of film, TV and video games.

In a ceremony in 2005, attended by BBC Chairman Michael Grade, the BBC renewed an agreement with Singapore-based MediaCorp Technologies to remain on the country's airwaves indefinitely. MediaCorp will also provide indefinite technical support.
