Bernard Madoff has been sentenced to 150 years in jail, after running what's thought to be Wall Street's biggest ever swindle, defrauding thousands of investors of $65 billion.

Many of his clients were wealthy individuals he met at exclusive country clubs on the East Coast including several who, like him, were prominent Jewish philanthropists.

His defence lawyer, Ira Sorkin, is also Jewish. He's acted for several other people charged with shocking crimes but has never before received so much hate mail just for doing his job.

Before the verdict was announced, Ira Sorkin told Outlook's Lucy Ash how the Madoff case compares with other cases he's handled.
