Musical Migrants traces journeys across borders, driven by a passion for the music of a foreign land.

In part one...

The series starts with the story of a Japanese singer who became passionate about the blues as a schoolgirl.

After her mother's death, Yoko Noge (right) felt able to leave her home in Osaka, Japan and find a new life in the capital of blues music, Chicago.

The first music bar she visited was Marie's Lounge, where Willy Kent was playing.

He heard her speak in broken English about her love of the blues and invited her to join him on stage.
