He spent eight weeks with the students documenting their stories and then saw them killed on that fateful night of June 4.

His memories are strong and ever since, Simpson has been persona non grata with the Chinese Government. But just recently he was granted a visa to return.

As well as the flamboyant contestants and judges, John also meets the Chinese take away boss set to take the Olympic torch from Jackie Chan.

And gets unprecedented access to the social activist movements in China quietly organising themselves against the bully tactics of big business and the state.

He also accompanies the Green Woodpeckers of Beijing tasked with cracking down on people for spitting on the streets prior to the Olympics.
