being a woman writer
The sense of yourself is the same.. in a small child's body, the sexual girl, or the old woman.
Lessing's novel The Golden Notebook, published in 1962,
was hailed as one of the great feminist consciousness-raising
novels. It explores the concept of breakdown, but was seen
at the time as being very shocking in the way it portrayed
the war between the sexes. Lessing remains bemused by the
reaction to this book...
Golden notebook for some reason surprised people but it
was no more than you would hear women say in their kitchens
every day in any country.. i was really astounded that
some people were very shocked..."
