Fatboy
Slim
Now enjoying international recognition
as a DJ and remixer, Fatboy Slim's first recordings
were with UK guitar group The Housemartins with
whom he played bass and sang backing vocals, using
his real name Norman Cook. The group were briefly
successful in their home country in the late 1980s,
reaching Number One in the charts, but split after
just two albums.
He then formed a dance group called Pizzaman before
forming Beats International and hitting the top
of the UK charts again with "Dub Be Good to Me".
After more success with dance band Freakpower, he
set out on his own and the first Fatboy Slim album,
"Better Living Through Chemistry," was released
in 1996 through his own Brighton-based label Skint.
By 1998, Fatboy Slim had also achieved success remixing
other people's tracks, such as Cornershop's "Brimful
of Asha" which reached Number One in the UK.
His next album "You've Come A Long Way, Baby," has
produced such international hits as "Praise You"
and "The Rockafeller Skank".
Norman / Fatboy is interviewed in his house in Brighton,
where he talks about his life and the nightclubs
in that town, and talks us through a wide range
of musical influences. |
