Damon
Albarn
Damon Albarn is the lead singer
with British group Blur. Following their first single
in 1990, Blur began a steady rise to fame, becoming
part of the successful "Britpop" era in
the mid-1990s. Their 'Parklife' album and single
helped them to win Best Band, Best Album, Best Single
and Best Video Brit Awards in 1995.
During 1995, Blur went head to head with Oasis in
a much-hyped "Battle of the Bands" as
they both released a single on the same day. Blur
won that particular battle, topping the UK charts
with "Country House".
By 1997, Blur became more experimental in their
sound. Their last two albums (the eponymous 'Blur'
and '13'), despite being less commercial than their
predecessors, have still provided the band with
hit singles across the world.
At the end of 1999, the band celebrated ten years
together with concerts featuring all of their singles
and b-sides to date. They have also recorded a track
that will be sent on an unmanned space mission to
Mars in 2003.
Damon picks an eclectic mix of music, illustrating
the wide range of music styles that influence his
work, and talks frankly about the emotional impact
of music. |
