Lasha Bugadze from Georgia and Fernanda Jaber, a Brazilian living in China, won the two top prizes in last year's BBC World Service and British Council International Radio Playwriting Competition.
Fernanda Jaber from China won the English as a second language category with her modern moral fable, click , which the judges described as "full of wonderful surprise," "poignant" and a "deep play done with a beautiful light touch."
Lasha Bugadze from Georgia won the English as a first language category for his dark comedy click , translated by Maya Kiasashvili.
The judges thought this play was "enchanting," "authentic" and that it cleverly turns the subject of loneliness into "joyous listening."
"This is an honour, not just for me but for my country," said Lasha, on hearing the news.
Fernanda was equally overjoyed, "I'm shaking, it's wonderful. I never thought I could win."
Both writers have won a play commission from the BBC.
They'll be flown to London for a week to see their plays professionally recorded, for broadcast on BBC World Service later in the year.
They'll also attend a special award ceremony in their honour at the prestigious Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
The expert panel of judges included star of stage and screen and celebrated screenwriter Dame Eileen Atkins; award-winning playwright Roy Williams and acclaimed international actress, Ayesha Dharker.
In addition, prizes of radios are awarded to the best writers from four regions:
Matthew Paul Olmos from the US claimed top prize for the Americas with his play The Nature of Captivity.
Sonja Lazović from Montenegro came first for Europe with her play Horn Signals.
Agur Schiff from Israel won for the Africa and the Middle East region with Listen .
Annie Zaidi from India won for the South Asia region with her play Jam.
Congratulations to all our winners from last year
