Set in the fictional town of Haddam, New Jersey, the story takes place over Easter weekend 1983.
In the aftermath of his divorce and the death of his beloved son four years earlier, 38-year old everyman Frank Bascombe struggles to come to terms with failure and tries to find consolation in the arms of a new girlfriend.
But what he hoped would be an idyllic adventure ushering in a new era in his life turns into quite the opposite.
