Jeff Sheng

For the last two years, photographer Jeff Sheng has been taking pictures of gay US servicemen and women, making sure their faces were always hidden.

According to the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy currently in force in the US army, they risk being discharged if they come out openly about their sexuality. Despite President Obama's earlier pledges to end the ban, his administration recently rejected proposals to do so, arguing that any abrupt change would have an impact on military operations.

Anna McNamee talked to Jeff Sheng about the men and women he met, and asks him what he was hoping to achieve by taking pictures of them.
