The City of Joy is designed to assist rape victims and is due to open today in the eastern city of Bukavu.

Its sponsors, including the best-selling American writer Eve Ensler, intend to select a small number of survivors of sexual violence and help them on the road to recovery while empowering them to become a new generation of activists and community leaders.

The BBC's Thomas Hubert visited the site a few days before its inauguration.
