Belgian journalist, Marc Hoogsteyns is travelling nearly 2000 kilometres through the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo in a kayak.

He embarked on his voyage down the Lukenie river in the Congo river basin six weeks ago as a way of exploring the Congolese interior and calling attention to the plight of people there.

Mr Hoogsteyns told the BBC Peter Ndoro more.
