What would you tell Barak Obama is special about your school?

Although the school is in a relatively small northern town it has developed a reputation for high standards and admirable qualities in its students, helping them to become well rounded citizens. The school doesn’t pigeon hole its students rather it supports them in making their own decisions about the people they want to become.

What would you give him to remember you by?

As a gift to remember the visit I would give him a scrap book including pictures from all the places we visit and quotes and photos of the people we meet. It will remind him that although we may be quite a small town especially in comparison to some of the ones in America, we are culturally diverse, modern and historical, young and old but all part of one community.

Where would you take Barak Obama in your school or community? Why?

There are many places around Otley that represent the importance of community but an incredibly important and beneficial centre is a youth club that is run weekly for children with learning difficulties. This centre provides children who are not as socially capable as others with a reliable and genuine friendship with others who are in the same situation. These children may not be able to live like others are able to, but clubs and centres like this provide them an opportunity to keep a part of their lives similar to their peers in school.  It also provides time for the parents to relax without the pressure of looking after their children.  The club is run by volunteers who dedicate their free time to help.

Which lesson would you invite Barack Obama to sit in on? Why?

Geography is well taught at our school and the syllabus provides students with detailed information of different important situations around the world such as inequalities, immoral happenings and wars.  Also with physical geography we can learn about historical events such as the Kobe earthquake, Volcano on Montserrat and Hurricane Katrina.  This is why Geography is such an important and useful subject.

What would you tell Barak Obama is special about your school?

Our school offers lots of language opportunities by giving lots of variety with different languages, that’s what I think is special about our school “The Language College”.

What would you want him to change in your school or community? Why?

Nothing really needs to improve in PHGS and Barack Obama could not do anything anyway.
