QBR Celebrations: Khaitan Public School
Khaitan Public School in Sahibabad, India took part in a one day sporting event at the Commonwealth Stadium.
They were chosen to be one of seventy-one schools involved in the special event on October 11 to mark the beginning of the Queen's Baton Relay.
Here's what they had to say about this special event:
"The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada and has taken place every four years ever since (except 1942 and 1946). As a means of improving society and the general well-being of the people of the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Games Federation also encourages and assists education via sport development and physical recreation.
"2014 will witness the XXth edition of the Commonwealth Games and will be held in Glasgow, Scotland. As a build up to the main event, the Queen's Baton Relay will start on 11 October with the baton coming to India.Continue reading the main story
"To mark the occasion, British Council, in association with Special Olympics Bharat organized a 1-day sporting extravaganza at Commonwealth Stadium on October 11, 2013 from 1000 hours to 1600 hours.
"As a part of this celebration our students got an opportunity to compete under the flag of a nation representing a selected country "Nauru" where they participated in the March Past and athletic games.
"In addition to the sporting events, there was a collage competition and an opportunity for schools to put up a cultural performance in front of a large audience."
