Although
tornados are rarely seen in Wiltshire, funnel clouds are a more common
sight over the county.
On Sunday Trowbridge resident, Iain Whittemore took this picture of
a funnel cloud over his home. |

Thankfully,
tornadoes are a rare sight in the skies above Wiltshire.
Funnel clouds are rather more common.
Iain Whittemore captured quite a well-developed funnel cloud on Sunday
evening above his home in Trowbridge.
These clouds are similar to tornadoes, they only differ insofar as
they do not extend down to the ground.
Their formation requires active cumulus or cumulonimbus clouds and
a reduction in pressure beneath the base of the cloud.
The next stage in the development of a funnel cloud is a tornado.
