How did the website come about?
 |
| Neil Moore |
"Neil Moore and the Gopher Systems
team moved from Bath to the village of Pewsey in August 2002.
"To acquaint the community with
their new location, Gopher Systems invited local people to visit
their offices, have a glass of wine and the chance to win a free
four page website.
"The open day was well attended
and Colin Lampard (Chairman of Pewsey Parish Council) agreed to
make the impartial draw for the free website.
"When asked how he would like
to be thanked, he said the local community would benefit from having
the Pewsey Village website updated.
"Neil felt he should ask the
local people in Pewsey what they would like to see included on the
new site.
"He organised an open consultation
afternoon at the local village Bouverie Hall giving everyone the
chance to voice their ideas and helpful comments.
"From the information offered
that day and on subsequent days the new website was created."
What does the website offer?
 |
| The website's guide
to what to see around Pewsey |
"The website now includes information
for people who live or work in the Pewsey area and for visitors
and tourists to Pewsey Vale.
It has information on local transport,
local amenities, local attractions, local businesses and, where
a relevant website already exists, the option to click straight
through to that website.
For example, the Wiggly Bus timetable
is already detailed and kept updated so there is no point in duplicating
this information.
Benefits to the local community include
raising the profile of an area of great natural beauty with good
road and rail links to major cities.
This will help attract commercial
interest leading to greater prosperity, increased job opportunities
and improved support services.
There is a discussion forum page
on the website which allows the free and frank exchange of ideas
and views on local issues.
How will the site develop?

"The Pewsey website is constantly
evolving as more and more information is included.
"For businesses with no website
of their own there is now the opportunity to have a single page
entry hosted on the Pewsey site.
"Neil hopes local students will
feel encouraged to write editorials for publication breathing fresh
vitality into the community.
"Local fund raising initiatives
will receive a boost to their efforts and a showcase is provided
for the oldest Carnival in the country."
