Those involved and the young people from the estate should be

In
such a short time the club, which started with just £200 raised
locally, has seen the membership soar to 100.
Now
the club provide a wide range of activities - from snooker and Scalextric
to Playstations with interactive dance mats!
In
addition they have held discos and talent shows, a trip to a theme
park and decorated a graffiti wall - not to mention the history
of the club being produced in a cross stitch tapestry.
Working
with the local council's housing department, the Community Safety
Partnership has helped to find an extra £2000 to fund some
of the projects. The results were so impressive that this year £4,000
has been obtained from the Home Office Building Safer Communities
Fund.
Some
of the money has been earmarked for another arts project, a regular
newsletter and, if they behave, another trip to a theme park!
The youngsters have proved that they respond to the right kind
of incentives and it is our aim to provide these for their sakes
as well as the community as a whole.

In
addition, the extra funding will allow the club to open on Friday
evenings as well.
However,
what the members are really looking forward to is the purchase of
a Karaoke system and digital camera to record their efforts. After
the immense success of the talent competitions, 'Fame Academy' better
watch out!
